4R in sustainability

  • Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs

  • Minimize the harms to the environment as much as possible

  • Build respects for the local environment and cultures

  • REDUCE: Avoid using or buying extra materials

  • REUSE: Don't through the things easily, apply it in another useful way

  • RECYCLE: Give something old to the people in needs, to adapt to a new use

  • REPLACE: Using alternatives like towel instead of tissue, save the earth

DOs and DONTs

  • Take off your hat and shoes when you went to a temple, the others home, office, and pagoda.

  • Be considerate to the communities and environment being visited

  • Always ASK before taking photos
(PS. Cambodians do not want to take the photo in a group of three as they believe that this will bring bad luck to the person in the middle.

  • As Cambodians usually dress conservatively. Tourist must dress appropriately to show their respect. It is also important to cover your knees, shoulders, stomachs, backs, and cleavage in everywhere especially temple.

  • Disturb others

  • Cambodian is very conservative, hugging or kissing in public will make them feel uncomfortable.

  • Touch anyone's head, including children and especially elders. The head is considered as the most sacred part of the body, and it is not polite to touch someone else’s.

  • Eat or purchase endangered species
( Instead, you can try fried spider in the market :) )

  • Show the souls of your feet – The souls of your feet must not point towards anyone, particularly the Buddha. It is because feet are considered to be the dirtiest part of the body.
